19 Jul 2005 One puppy left….
 |  Category: English Springer Spaniels  | One Comment

Only one puppy left who is looking for a place to call home near Wisconsin Dells, WI…. My bud “Bruiser”, his brother left Sunday evening, and now his personality is really shining through. I really need to break down the BIG kennel and switch it out for a small crate for him to sleep in now. Sure looked full with all the pups running around in there, now Bruiser looks lost in it by himself. He sure is learning how to use those big puppy dog eyes to get scooped up and hauled around the house, and onto the bed, just a big ol’ sweetheart is what he is.

19 Jul 2005 WCCA: more concealed carry classes
 |  Category: General  | Leave a Comment

AACFI concealed carry instructor Bill Schmitz has added more classes for Minnesota non-resident permits to his summer schedule.

The AACFI course would satisfy the training requirements under the concealed carry bill we had last year in Wisconsin; the training requirements should remain the same in this year’s bill. And, of course, the AACFI course meets the requirements for Florida non-resident permits, as well as several other states.

Once again, Bill is generously reducing his fee so that his students can send a donation to our political action committee, the Wisconsin Concealed Carry Movement (WCCM). Without these donations, we wouldn’t have been able to contribute some $16,000 last year to the campaigns of pro-concealed carry candidates. Next year we hope to contribute even more. With your help, we can make that happen.

Details from Bill are below.

Thanks,
The Wisconsin Concealed Carry Association

The CCW Certification Class is an AACFI Certified class that is accepted as meeting the Minnesota and Florida training standards for receiving both the FL & MN CCW permit. The Non-Resident Florida CCW permit is recognized as valid in 28 states. (Listed on the BDJ-LTD website)

One consistent promise I make to my students is that any updates needed to qualify for the WI Permit, when the legislation is passed this session, will be passed onto my students at my materials cost. We are reducing our class fee and asking our students to contribute to the WCCM. Anyone who signs up for the classes will be given the discount; we encourage our students to donate the difference to the WCCM.

You should bring to the class, Eye & Ear protection, a Handgun that you are comfortable with, 30 rounds of ammo, and 2-3 magazines or speed loaders.

The Range exercise consists of 15 rounds at 15 ft and 15 Rounds at 25ft.

These exercises are timed and are executed from the standing position of your choice.

Cost of the class is $150 ($100, plus the voluntary $50 WCCM donation) per student. While Range Fees at the Deerfield and Shooters Shop are extra, the range fees at the BDJ Range, Twin City R&G Club, Black River and Corbin range are included in the course.

Payment can be by check, cash, money order or PayPal.
Payment in advance will reserve your seat in the class of your choice.

16 Jul 2005 SNAFU

All the cool enhancements that were made all week to my main Forums had to be backed off and re-applied after finding out that I broke the main language file and subsequently breaking the registration page… Just glad I make frequent backups. Too many I think, there are backups of files that are over 6 months old and dozens of versions behind.

One of these days I’ll remember that PICO has a finite limit on line lengths and truncates ‘long lines’ for you, not that you want this to happen. What a mess. Hopefully someone else will remember this next time they are hacking on their phpBB files…. pull them into something like gEdit to make your mods. Need to see if EMACS or another CLI type editor avoids the same annoying ‘feature’ of truncating long lines. Seems silly to have to jump into Xwindows just edit a PHP file.

While I was at it I did shorten the initial registration page for the forums down to 4 entries, username, email addy, and password/password verification. Folks can go back into their profile and update the rest of the info as they see fit. Just speeds up the registration process a bit, 4 fields is less daunting than the 30ish editable fields. :sigh:
